Kindred

I knew of Octavia E. Butler through Parable of the Sower, but admittedly wasn’t aware of Kindred until after I watched the FX TV show. I decided to check out the book, since I enjoyed the show and was disappointed with its cancellation. The premise of having a modern-day black woman time travel back to antebellum Maryland is the same, but the depth of character and social commentary is much more powerful in the book. That said, I did enjoy the twist added in the TV show and would have loved a sequel from Butler.
