Authority is the second of the Southern Reach series by Jeff VanderMeer. In this installment, we learn more about the enigmatic Southern Reach, which is responsbile for sending expeditions into Area X. We experience things through the new head of the Southern Reach, John “Control” Rodrigues. As expected, they get pretty weird. I’m hoping for some closure by the end of the series, but I should probably be ready for more questions than answers.
